Server Virtualization Services

Virtualization lets one physical server run several virtual servers, each with its own operating system and applications. For small and mid-sized businesses, that means less hardware to buy and maintain, faster recovery when something fails, and a simpler path to the cloud. SimplifiedPC plans, builds and supports virtual environments on Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware.

How virtualization helps your business

  • Fewer physical servers to buy, power, cool and maintain
  • Better use of hardware that would otherwise sit mostly idle
  • Faster disaster recovery: a whole server can be restored from a single backup image
  • Less downtime for maintenance and hardware upgrades
  • Easier growth: add a new server in hours instead of ordering hardware
  • Separation of applications so one problem doesn't affect everything else
  • Remote access to systems and applications, including thin clients
  • A simpler move to the cloud when you're ready

Virtualization services

Assessment & planning

We review your current servers, applications and workloads and design a virtual environment sized for today with room to grow.

Host server deployment

Selecting, installing and configuring host hardware and storage, including redundancy where downtime is costly.

Physical-to-virtual migration

Moving existing servers into virtual machines with minimal disruption, scheduled around your business.

Hyper-V & VMware support

Ongoing monitoring, patching, capacity planning and troubleshooting for your hosts and virtual machines.

Virtual machine backup

Image-level backups of your virtual servers with off-site copies, so you can recover a whole server quickly.

Platform evaluation

Recent VMware licensing changes have many small businesses re-evaluating their platform. We'll help you compare options and migrate if it makes sense.

Is virtualization right for you?

Virtualization is usually a good fit if you run more than one server, rely on older servers approaching end of life, need to keep a line-of-business application running on-site, or want faster recovery than a traditional single server allows. If your business runs mainly on Microsoft 365 and cloud applications, you may not need on-site servers at all. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.

Virtualization FAQ

Hyper-V or VMware: which is better for a small business?

Both are proven platforms. Hyper-V is included with Windows Server, which often makes it the more cost-effective choice for small businesses already licensed for Windows Server. We'll recommend based on your applications, existing licensing and budget.

Will our applications work in a virtual machine?

Most business applications run without changes. We'll confirm vendor support for your line-of-business software during planning.

Does virtualization replace backups?

No. Virtualization makes backups and recovery faster, but you still need regular backups stored separately, including an off-site copy.

How long does migration take?

A typical small office with one or two servers can often be migrated over an evening or weekend. Larger environments are migrated in phases.

Get more from your server hardware

We'll review your servers and applications and show you whether virtualization can lower costs and improve recovery.
